The large barbecues were nearly always made from old barrels and caused quite a stir. Some of these already looked very similar to the design of Joe’s Barbecue Smokers & Grills, which you can find in our range. It didn’t take long until the first barbecues with their special cooking method were creating mouth-watering delicacies in German gardens too. To begin with, salt and pepper were the main seasonings used. However the German-American friendship resulted in many recipes being exchanged all over the place and soon German barbecue lovers began to learn that more than just a few standard spices are needed for a properly successful BBQ. It became apparent that the Americans knew a huge range of different recipes and that no “standard recipe” existed in the true sense of the word. Part of the trend is knowing all the right jargon and every real fan of tasty spice mixes has their own favourites. This is precisely why you will find our product range stocked with countless different barbecue spice mixes to suit the vast variety of tastes.

If you like it mild, you’re in the right place

We’ve got barbecue spice mixes ranging from very mild to devilishly hot. For fans of mild seasoning, we have a number of delicious spice mixes available. For example, this includes Cowtown Sweet Spot Barbecue Rub, Cowtown Hog Squeal Rub, Cowtown All-Purpose Rub and our Swing Grill and Spit Roast Spice Mix. All of these seasoning are a very gentle spice level 1. These mixtures are a little hotter: Churrasco Barbecue (Mexican), Zarda Barbecue Rub and the Chicken Rub Seasoning. These mixtures have been rated as spice level 2 and can be used for different types of meat. You can find out more details about each of our barbecue spice mixes and other seasonings in the respective product description pages, including recipe suggestions. Barbecue spice mixes and other seasonings for those who like to spice it up

The Peppercorn Steak Rub Seasoning is a 4 on the spice scale and is designed especially for using on steaks. This spice level is still relatively harmless and is in the lower mid-range of spiciness. In contrast, a much hotter spice mix is Fire Dust. Rated at spice level 7, this mixture is already in the upper segment of our spice rankings. Fire Dust is not a special barbecue spice mix, but this hot mixture can be used to add extra seasoning after cooking or as a supplement to other spices. The popular Fire Salt seasoning acts in a similar way and is also the same spice level.

How to make a delicious BBQ

The spice mixes are usually rubbed into the meat dry by hand. Alternatively, other ingredients (e.g. oil, lemon juice, wine, garlic, herbs etc.) can be used to form the basis of a wet marinade. A marinade should be allowed to soak in for at least 2-3 hours, or 24 hours at best. In addition to our barbecue spice mixes, you will also find delicious sauces and a very special book, which will give you plenty of fresh ideas – just see for yourself!
