Homemade Barbecue Sauce
Recipe for a homemade sweet n hot BBQ Sauce
A typical US American barbecue sauce is a blend of sweetness from sugar or molasses, acid from vinegar or lemon huice and a delicious smoky flavour.
It fits well with spare ribs, barbecued pork and chicken, but refines almost any grill.
Ingredients for 600 ml sauce:
500 ml Ketchup
60 ml Worcestershire Sauce
60 ml Apple Cider Vinegar
45 g brown sugar
2 tblsp. molasses
2 tbsp. mustard
1 tblsp. Tabasco
1 tblsp. barbecue rub
2 tsp liquid smoke flavouring
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp chilli powder (amount depending on the s heat preference)
Preparation:
Put all ingredients in a small pot and boil slowly. Then reduce the temperature slightly and simmer the sauce about 10 - 15 minutes until it thickens and is intensely fragrant.
If you fill the sauce in sterilized, sealable containers, it keeps in the refrigerator for several months.
