Indian Kofta Curry
Meat balls in Curry
The Indian version of meatballs is here intensive in spices and in a delicious curry-tomato sauce. Kofta curry can be found on the menu in many Indian restaurants, but everyone has their own little secret ingredient to make the curry a taste sensation.
Ingredients meat balls (4 People):
500 g minced chicken
1 onion
1 - 2 cloves of garlic
5 stems fresh coriander
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp turmeric
Sauce:
500 g chopped tomatoes
200 ml cream
1 onion
1 piece of ginger ( about 3cm)
2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chilli powder (e.g. Bhut Jolokia)
1 tbsp honey
Oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
Peel onion and garlic, cut into fine pieces or put through a vegetable slicer. Then finely chop the coriander.
Mix the minced meat with the onion cubes, garlic, coriander, cinnamon and turmeric in a bowl.
Form 2 - 3 cm meatballs from the mixture and fry them in a pan until they have a light brown colour. Remove the meatballs and set aside for later processing.
Peel and finely chop the ginger and onion for the sauce. Heat the oil in a pan or wok, then add the onion and ginger. When the onion is slightly glazed, add the turmeric, garam masala, coriander and chilli powder and fry for a short time. Add the chopped tomatoes and the cream, then place the meatballs in the sauce. Turn the pan or wok down to medium heat, cover and simmer for about 5 - 7 minutes.
If you are unsure about the cooked state of the meatballs, you can remove a ball after this time and try it.
Before removing the pan from the heat, add the honey and season with salt and pepper if necessary.
Arrange the dish on 4 dishes, garnish with coriander and serve with naan bread or rice.
If you like it hot, you can add a certain kick to the meat balls with these chilli powders:
