Organic Bishop`s Crown Chili Seeds
Information: The Bishop`s Crown Chili originally comes from Barbados, its name is taken from the pepper`s similarity to a bishop`s hat. The plants develop very large leaves, reaching a formidable size. As is also typical for the Capsicum baccatum species, it ramifies late and develops a crown. The plants are very robust and can be cultivated for several years with the appropriate care and nurture during the winter months.
The thick-fleshed bishop`s crown chili peppers have an intense flavour, ripening from green to red. There is a clear difference in terms of spiciness between the wing and the body of the pepper. They have a sweet-and-sour flavour with a hint of paprika and a mild spicy heat. They can be eaten fresh in a salad, stuffed with cream cheese, barbecued or preserved.
Care: Germination temperature is between 22°C and 28°C (germination period: 8-20 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil and should not be left in standing water. They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, if not more. The earliest time to place the plants outside is 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. As the plant is perennial, it should be grown in a plant pot and kept over winter. It might be necessary to cut them back slightly and place them in a light place where it is at least 15°C.
