Ancho San Luis Large Mexican Chili Seeds

Information: The Ancho San Luis Large Mexican Chili is a very old variety of chili from Mexico. It has a bushy growth form and produces a large number of 14cm long fruits, that are a brilliant orange when ripe. 

It has an intense fruity-sweet flavour with a slight hint of heat. Traditionally, ancho chilies, also known as poblano chilies, are used for ‘chile relleno’, a dish where the peppers are stuffed with minced beef, coated in an egg batter and fried. They also taste fantastic uncooked, as an ingredient in salsas and sauces or on the barbecue.

Care: Germination temperature is between 20°C  and 28°C (germination period: 7-20 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil and should not be left in standing water. They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, if not more. Place the plants outside around 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. When you plant the seedlings outdoors, take care to leave at least 30cm of space between each plant.
