Cucumber Long Green Ridge Seeds

Info: `Long Green Ridge` cucumber is a compact variety and produces lots of 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) long dark green fruits. The name `ridge cucumber` comes from the old habit of growing them on raised beds or ridges - but the plants are climbers and today the vines are left to scramble along the ground or are supported by netting, posts, bamboo poles etc. The fruits are eaten raw, pickled or cooked.

Sowing & cultivation: Sow indoors Mar-Apr or sow directly outdoors in May when all risk of frost has passed. Sow 3 seeds 10mm deep into 8cm pots of free draining moist seed compost. Thin to strongest seedling asap. Keep moist, not wet. Plant the seedlings out after the last frost. Cucumbers prefer rich soil with plenty of organic matter. Train up supports with 45 cm spacing. For ground maturing lay straw or plastic to keep fruit clean with 90cm spacing. Pick fruits while young and tender, older fruits can become bitter.
