Lettuce Suzan Seeds
Info: Lettuce `Suzan` is a robust variety that produces large, light green buttery and crispy heads, that have a good storage capacity. This variety is a good choice for sowing under cloches in February and then throughout the whole summer outdoors, making it a good all rounder. It holds well in warmer temperatures without bolting.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow outdoors from mid August to mid September. For harvesting in late April to mid May. Seed depth 6 - 12 mm in short rows about 20 - 30 cm apart. When the seedlings are about 2cm tall, thin them out. A rich soil is excellent for lettuce, but the crop will also do well in average garden soil. Fertilize the soil with compost or horn meal before sowing. Watering is essential, the plants need almost constantly moist ground as dry soil will cause the plants to put their energy into producing flowers. The young plantlets are better able to withstand the cold than older plants. In heavy frost use perforated foil or cloches as cold protection.
