Chinese Lantern Physalis Seeds
Info: The bright orange leaves of the Physalis fruit husks make a beautiful splash of colour in the garden in autumn. The main flowering season is from July and the cream-white star-shaped flowers show that they belong to the nightshade family. Within the lanterns grow the small berries, which are poisonous like the whole plant. They are very well suited as colour spots in farm gardens and herbaceous borders.
Sowing & cultivation: Sowing from February/March in pre-culture approx. 1 cm deep. Lampion flowers like a sunny to half-shady location and a calcareous but nutrient-rich soil. As the lantern flowers tend to proliferate, a rhizome barrier is sometimes recommended. The perennials are hardy when planted out. In tubs, good root protection must be provided so that they do not freeze to death. Do not prune the stems until spring.
