Liquorice Rossa

If one believes the Enciclopedia Britannica, the best liquorice grows in Calabria. Its botanical name is "Glycyrrhiza glabra" (in English sweet root or liquorice). In autumn the roots are harvested, from which the Amarelli family produces since the 18th century the syrup as the basic ingredient for the cult pastilles from Calabria. The only ingredient is pure liquorice extract.

The pastilles in the red tin have been part of the Italian snack culture for centuries. They are available in a comfortable size, as well as in the double-sized tin can for the handbag.
