Rocotillo Chili Seeds
Info: The Rocotillo Chili is a mild variety of the Capsicum chinense type. The plants are bushy and reach up to approx. one metre in height. They develop numerous small, slightly wrinkled fruits, which have a very fruity, almost sweet flavour and a mild spiciness. They can be eaten in all stages of ripening (green / orange / dark red). They are suitable for fresh consumption, for salsas, in salads, for pickling, stuffing and drying.
Comment: There is some confusion around the Rocotillo, as in addition to the Chinense variety, there is also a Baccatum variety with this name. This comes from Peru, and is very similar to the Chinense variety in appearance and flavour. Additionally, in some regions of the world, Rocotillo is the local name for other chili types.
Care: The germination temperature is between 20 und 28°C (7 - 20 day germination period), therefore the use of a greenhouse and a heating mat is recommended. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil, and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more. Put the plants outside approx. 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost.
