Aji Mochero Chili Seeds
Information: The Aji Mochero Chili comes from the northern Andes region of Peru and has been cultivated there for over 2000 years. The elongated, bright yellow fruits have a fruity Chinense aroma with a light citrus note. The plants grow bushy and get only 35-50 cm tall. They are good for balcony boxes and due to their small size suitable for overwintering.
In Northern Peruvian gastronomy, this chili pepper is appreciated for its hot taste and its citric aroma. It is used to prepare several typical dishes, such as ceviche a la trujillana, a dish made with fish marinated in lemon juice and seasoned with ají mochero; or Cangrajo reventado, crabs cooked in a sauce made with onions, different types of ajies, eggs and spices.
Care: Germination temperature is between 22°C and 28°C (germination period: 10-20 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil, and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more. As the plants have a particularly long maturation period, it is recommended to grow them in a pot, so that you can easily bring the plant inside when the temperature falls below 12°C during the day, allowing all the fruits to ripen. To keep the plant over the winter, cut it back by 20cm after harvesting and place in a light place where it is at least 15°C.
