Blue Bean Tree Seeds
Info: The blue bean tree originally comes from China and is a hardy, deciduous shrub up to 5 m tall, which can endure temperatures down to -20°C. It has very pretty, bell-shaped, yellowish flowers, which can grow up to 50 cm long. It blooms from April to June. The flowers produce the name-giving blue, cucumber-shaped fruits, which can be up to 15 cm long. These are edible.
Sowing & cultivation: The seeds should be stored in the refrigerator for 40 days before letting them germinate in water for one day. When the seedling is visible, put it about 1 cm deep into the growing soil. At a temperature of approx. 23 °C, keep it constantly moist. When the young plant is big enough it can be planted in the garden or a big pot. Blue bean trees like a semi-shade to sunny place and regular watering. Fertilize regularly (approx. every 14 days). Cut back into shape after winter. It is recommended to cut off the shoots above the first or second bud.
