Dragon Fruit Red Seeds
Info: The dragon fruit is also called pitahaya and belongs to the cactus family. They are climbing cacti that grow fast and need a support, a framework or a wall on which they can climb. Like all cacti they need an earth-sand mixture in a ratio of 1:1. The flowers are impressive and large and the fruits are very tasty under their scaly skin. The variety Hylocereus monacanthus has red flesh and a pink skin.
Sowing & cultivation: Place the seeds on the soil-sand mixture (light germination) and keep moist, but avoid waterlogging. Optimum temperature: 18-25°C. Water the young plants well, in the case of mature plants the root balls may dry out completely before they are watered well. It is advantageous to place the plants outside in summer, because they need a lot of light. If necessary, cactus fertilizer can be added. One overwinters them like all cacti indoors at 10 to 15°C in a bright place with very economical watering.
