Pomegranate Seeds
Info: Most know the delicious fruits of the pomegranate tree, but that it also has beautiful bright red flowers, many do not know. The flowers are 2-3 cm long, have a diameter of about 1.5 cm and are funnel-shaped. The pomegranate needs a special phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to produce fruit from the flowers. Otherwise the fruit will not ripen or fall off the shrub.
Sowing & cultivation: Before sowing, pre-soak the seeds in lukewarm water for approx. 12 hours. Then place on a moist growing soil and press lightly. Keep warm, light and moist. If necessary, use an indoor-greenhouse or foil for covering. The larger plants need a nutrient-rich, permeable soil and a warm, protected, fully sunny location. The pomegranate tree is quite robust and survives even short periods of drought. For overwintering as a tub plant, a frost-free room is sufficient, which may also be dark if the temperature is below 10 °C, as Punica granatum is deciduous. Planted pomegranate trees can withstand light frost. However, by Central European standards, the frost resistance is much too low for a year-round crop in the garden.
