Scarlet Sage Seeds
Info: Scarlet Sage is also called blood sage or Texas sage and has bright fiery red flowers in late summer. The 60 - 80 cm tall plant originates from Mexico and is still quite unknown here as an ornamental plant. Salvia coccinea is one of the psychoactive sage species, but too little is known about its toxic effects and long-term effects can lead to health risks. Therefore it is not advisable to use it.
Sowing & cultivation: Sowing from mid-March in preculture or from May outdoors. After germination, prick into pots and place outside only after the danger of frost has passed. Scarlet Sage likes a sunny place and a normal, permeable garden soil that is not too rich in nutrients. Scarlet Sage is a perennial shrub, but not frost hardy and must therefore be overwintered indoors.
