Dahlia Unwins Seeds
Info: The Dahlia Unwins is a bushy, dwarf Dahlia variety that blooms throughout the whole summer. The single to semi-double flowers are pretty spots of colour in the bed and in flower boxes in white, yellow, pink, purple and red. They are also suitable for large areas of planting or bordering. If you cut the faded heads regularly, you will prolong the flowering time.
Sowing & Cultivation: Sow from the beginning of March in pre-culture (not earlier, as otherwise the seedlings get too little light and etiolate). Sowing depth approx. 0.5 cm in fine compost, preferably in individual pots. Keep soil damp but not wet. So that the young plants grow bushy, the main sprout can be cut. After a short time, the plant sprouts there with twice or even four times the number of shoots. From mid-May, you can gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out after all risk of frost. Bed distance approx. 40 cm. Dahlias prefer good moisture retentive soil and full sun.
Growing dahlias from seeds is a good alternative for all those who do not have a suitable place to hibernate the tubers.
