Vermiculite is ideal for improving soil moisture.

Vermiculite is a natural product for soil improvement. It is made of a type of clay shale that is strongly heated and then has a structure that both absorbs and releases moisture.
You can mix the soil with the vermiculite to increase the water retention of the soil. Or you can cover your sowing with the material to improve soil moisture and prevent green cover.

You can also use perlite in addition to vermiculite to make your soil more airy.
Mix two parts soil with one part perlite and one part vermiculite.
