Lemon balm Seeds
Info: Originally from southern Europe, lemon balm is also known as lemon grass, hives, citronella or women`s well-being. The popular spice and medicinal herb belongs to the family of the labiate blood and is therefore closely related to other medicinal plants such as sage or rosemary. Lemon balm is known for its slightly lemony aroma. In the kitchen there are a variety of uses. It goes perfectly with fish dishes or fresh in a crispy salad. Also a soothing tea can be brewed from this special herb. Melissa tea has a digestive and calming effect. It is also used for colds or sleep disorders. Because of her versatility she was elected in 1988 for medicinal plant of the year.
Sowing & cultivation: Since lemon balm requires germination temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees, the sowing should be done in the pot. The right time for sowing is in early March. To do this, fill the pot with seed soil, sprinkle the seeds on it and cover with a little bit of compost. In a sunny, bright and dry place the lemon balm should be planted from mid-May. A permeable, humus-rich soil is best suited for this purpose. It would be advisable to mix some potting soil with sand and gravel.
