Rue Seeds
Info: The rue or common rue is an intensely fragrant bee-friendly perennial that originated in the Mediterranean region and has been known as a medicinal and spice plant in Europe since Roman times. It thrives well on stony as well as fresh ground and likes a sunny to hot location. It flowers yellow, is relatively unspectacular and can therefore be combined well with other perennials and belongs in every natural garden. Its fragrance attracts numerous insects and its sugar-rich nectar serves as rich food for bees, bumblebees and wild bees. Gardeners appreciate it as a natural ant repellent, simply hang a few dried stems in the kitchen and the ants will stay away. The dried leaves can be used to flavour meat and fish, and it also stimulates the appetite and aids digestion.
Caution: this plant should not be placed directly on the path, as it can have a phototoxic effect if it touches the skin.
Sowing & cultivation: Sowing is best from March onwards in pre-culture or from May onwards in the open. Place the seeds on soil and cover only lightly. It cannot be sunny enough for the rue and the location should also be warm. The soil should not be too firm, somewhat well-drained and it will even grow in poor soil. It can grow quite wide, so leave enough space when planting (30 - 50 cm). It survives mild winters without problems.
