Burnet Seeds
Info: Burnet is a mild spicy salad herb that grows well in many gardens. The young tender leaves are ideal for delicious salads. The plant is easy to grow, and returns year after year. In mild winter months the leaves remain green and can be harvested as winter salad. As a medicinal herb it is appreciated for its hemostatic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Sowing & cultivation: sow from March directly in the field. Cover seeds only lightly with soil. Although they are frost hardy, burnets like warm climates. The ideal location may be in full sun or partial shade, but it should be quite bright in any case. They prefer well-drained, limy soil. But to develop sufficient flavour as kitchen spice, the burnet should be seeded in nutrient-rich, slightly moist soils. The plant is undemanding and very robust. However, if you want to harvest the young leaves for seasoning, you should make the effort to remove the inflorescences.
