Sage Seeds
Info: Sage is an evergreen spice and medicinal plant from the Mediterranean region. Today it is widespread throughout Europe. The perennial subshrubs usually reach stature heights between 30-60cm, but can be up to a meter high under optimal climatic and site conditions. As a spice, it is especially served with hearty meat dishes, fish or a delicious herb cheese. Sage also finds many uses as a medicinal plant. Due to the contained tannins and bitter substances, a tea from sage has an effect on appetite, indigestion and stomach cramps.
Sowing & cultivation: The sowing can take place from May directly into the field. The seeds should be sown with a depth of 1-1.5cm. Since sage belongs to the light germs, the seeds should be covered only slightly with earth. For optimal and healthy growth, the planting distance should be 30-40cm and the row spacing 50cm. A humorous, nutrient-rich, loamy-sandy soil is ideal. The soil should be loosened superficially and enriched with garden compost and horn meal. For protection against cold nights a garden fleece can be used.
