Spearmint Seeds
Info: Spearmint is also called Moroccan mint. It is the classic British kitchen mint. In contrast to the famous pepper mint, it has a not quite as sharp, but rather fresh mint flavour. The popular cocktail Mojito or the refreshing summer drink Hugo, is usually made with spearmint.
The plants grow vigorously upright, the leaves are bright green, sometimes almost frizzy and the flowers are light violet.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed as it needs light to germinate, and water from below. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into single 15cm pots. Planting out occurs after all risk of frost. Mentha spicata likes any ordinary, well-drained soil and a sunny to half-shady place. For a vigorous and bushy growth it is best to pinch back the tips of young plants.
