Purple Calabash Tomato Seeds
Info: The Purple Calabash tomato is a very rare and unusual variety which is similar to the historic tomatoes from the 16th century. It develops beautiful, large, brown to violet, ribbed beefsteak tomatoes which can weigh up to 200 g and are very eye-catching in the garden. They develop an unmistakeable sweet-spicy flavour. The up to 2 metre high plants are very high yielding, so the branches should be well-supported. This variety is resistant against late blight and brown rot.
Care: You can grow the Purple Calabash tomatoes inside the house, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimal germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C, and germination occurs after 8 - 14 days. You can speed up the germination process if you leave the seeds to soak overnight in a damp cloth. You should wait until after the last frost to plant your chosen plants.
Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil which is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more.
