Reisetomate - Travel Tomato Seeds
Info: The "Reisetomate" (also called "travel tomato" or "tomate de voyage") owes its name to the fact that its unusual fruit shape from several independent fruit chambers makes it possible to eat it like an orange in individual pieces without having to eat the entire travel tomato in one piece. This makes it suitable as a travel snack or picnic tomato. The strongly wrinkled, chambered fruits ripen to a deep red and are very flavourful, sweet-sour with a pronounced tomato flavour and firm flesh. The plants can grow up to 2.50 metres in height, need a support and the side shoots have to be removed regularly. They are relatively resistant to blight and brown rot.
Care: You can grow tomatoes inside the house, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimal germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C, and germination occurs after 8 - 14 days. You can speed up the germination process if you leave the seeds to soak overnight in a damp cloth. You should wait until after the last frost to plant your chosen plants.
Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil which is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more.
