Rutgers tomato seeds
Info: The Rutgers tomato was bred in the 1930s by Rutgers University and since then has been a very popular variety in the USA. It is resistant against many diseases and is very high yielding. The tomatoes are round, deep red and burst-resistant. They have an intense tomatoey flavour with a slight sweetness, and are very juicy. In the USA they are often used for boiling down, but are also great as salad tomatoes and are an absolute all-rounder for many dishes.
Care: You can grow the Calypso tomatoes inside the house, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimal germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C, and germination occurs after 8 - 14 days. You can speed up the germination process if you leave the seeds to soak overnight in a damp cloth. You should wait until after the last frost to plant your chosen plants.
Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil which is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more.
