Rio Grande Tomato Seeds
Info: The Rio Grande tomato originates from Peru and is a very resistant variety with plum-shaped red fruits and an excellent flavour. The tomatoes have a very firm fruit flesh, are burst-resistant and easy to store, and weigh up to approx. 100 - 170 g. The fruits are excellent as salad tomatoes, as well as for making sauces or tomato paste. The plants grow up to 120 cm in height and are extremely high yielding.
Care: You can grow the Rio Grande tomatoes inside the house, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimal germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C, and germination occurs after 8 - 14 days. You can speed up the germination process if you leave the seeds to soak overnight in a damp cloth. You should wait until after the last frost to plant your chosen plants.
Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil which is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more.
