Pea Alderman Seeds
Info: Pea `Alderman` is a heirloom variety (sind 1890s) that produces heavy crops of large, curved, dark green pea pods of the highest quality. The plants grow up to 2 meters in height that will require supports but is well worth the effort for the huge yields that it produces. Each pod of Pea `Alderman` contains up to 10 succulent peas with a superb sweet flavour. A real benefit is the extended cropping period of a month or more. Although they`re meant to be shelling peas they are just as good if you pick them when they`re still flat and eat them as mangetout.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow when the soil is warm to the touch, which will be some time between the middle of March and the end of April. Sowing depth: 4-5 cm. Peas require a sunny position with well-drained and nutrient-rich soil, but not acidic. Use bamboo canes, pea sticks, trellis, netting or chicken wire as a climbing support for the plants. Once you feel the seeds in the pod, the peas are ripe for harvest. The more you harvest, the more they will produce. As the containing sugar decomposes very quickly, they taste sweetest immediately after harvesting.
