Pea Hurst Green Shaft Seeds
Info: Pea `Hurst Greenshaft` is an exceptional variety that has long been one of the favourite varieties. Growing to only a height of around 70cm, the dark green pods are about 11cm long and carry from 9 to 11 delicious, sweetly flavoured peas. Borne in pairs, the pods tend to be produced mainly on the top half of the bush, which makes light work of picking. The peas are suitable for fresh picking and freezing. Additionally, the plants are resistant to both mildew and fusarium wilt.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow when the soil is warm to the touch, which will be some time between the middle of March and the end of April. Sowing depth: 4-5 cm. Peas require a sunny position with well-drained and nutrient-rich soil, but not acidic. Use bamboo canes, pea sticks, trellis, netting or chicken wire as a climbing support for the plants. Once you feel the seeds in the pod, the peas are ripe for harvest. The more you harvest, the more they will produce. As the containing sugar decomposes very quickly, they taste sweetest immediately after harvesting.
