Pea Progress No. 9 Seeds
Info: Pea `Progress No. 9` is a prolific and early yielding variety. The plants grow only 40 to 50cm tall, making it excellent for container growing and smaller gardens. Actually, there is no need to stake its short vines, although the peas are easier to harvest when supplied with a small trellis or a fence. The plants produce masses of dark green plump pods that are 8 to 10cm long with 7 to 9 delicious peas per well-filled pod. This variety is resistant to both Fusarium root rot and wilt.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow when the soil is warm to the touch, which will be some time between the middle of March and the end of April. Sowing depth: 4-5 cm. Peas require a sunny position with well-drained and nutrient-rich soil, but not acidic. Use bamboo canes, pea sticks, trellis, netting or chicken wire as a climbing support for the plants. Once you feel the seeds in the pod, the peas are ripe for harvest. The more you harvest, the more they will produce. As the containing sugar decomposes very quickly, they taste sweetest immediately after harvesting.
