Cauliflower Di Sicilia Violetto Seeds
Info: Cauliflower `Di Sicilia Violetto` is an unusual and eye-catching variety with its round, purple heads that turn green when cooked. It forms vigorous, fast-growing plants that can be grown early and is characterized by good cold tolerance. Di Sicilia Violetto can be planted until late summer to ensure late harvests into the winter. It has a slightly stronger taste than white cauliflower varieties due to the chlorophyll content (leaf green).
Sowing & cultivation: Sowing is best under cover from the end of January to March, outdoor sowing from March to mid-July. Sow 10 mm deep in rows 20 cm apart. Transplant to final growing position in the prepared bed is best done at the end of March/April or 5 weeks after sowing, singling out to 45 cm spacing. Prefers a sunny position on a soil with plenty of well rotted organic matter, acidic soil should have lime added. Harvesting from the end of June to July , when the heads are still tight and firm, cut in the morning. The curds may "yellow" if they receive too much sun, rain, or frost. Secure the plants` long leaves over the cauliflower heads to insure beautiful white heads.
