Carrot Berlicum Seeds
Info: Carrot `Berlicum` is named after the town in the Netherlands from where it originated and is appreciated by gourmets. It bears cylindrical shaped, stump, sweet roots with fine carrot flavour and a crisp tenderness. The carrots often reach up to 20cm in length in lighter soils. Berlicum is suitable for early forcing in cold frames and for early cropping but is equally good when mature. Sow successionally from February to August for harvesting June to January. Berlicum is resistant to alternaria (carrot blight) and stores well.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from Febuary under cloches or fleece. Can be sown outdoors as late as August. Sow them as thinly as possible, this reduces the amount of thinning necessary. Mix the seeds with a handful of sharp sand and sow the seeds and sand together. Plants should be kept well watered and carrots prefer a sandy, well-drained soil. Too much nitrogen will cause the carrots to grow hairy little roots all up and down the carrot.
