Carrot Chantenay Royal Seeds
Info: Carrot `Chantenay Royal` is a French heirloom that can reach up to 20 cm in length, and is therefore al little longer than the varieties` `Red Core`. The orange carrots have an excellent sweet flavour and can also be harvested as baby carrots. The carrots are also suitable for container growing and excellent for both early and successional sowing.
Chantenay carrots are extremely versatile: delicious in salads or served as crudités, they can be chargrilled, baked, steamed, or used stir-fry.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from Febuary under cloches or fleece. Can be sown outdoors as late as August. Sow them as thinly as possible, this reduces the amount of thinning necessary. Mix the seeds with a handful of sharp sand and sow the seeds and sand together. Plants should be kept well watered and carrots prefer a sandy, well-drained soil. Too much nitrogen will cause the carrots to grow hairy little roots all up and down the carrot.
