Sweetcorn Fiesta Seeds
Info: Sweet corn `Fiesta` is a traditional Indian variety that produces colourful cobs in beautiful combinations of red, orange and purple. The corn is edible, but not as sweet as the modern yellow F1 hybrids. If the corn shall be eaten, the harvest is done when the cobs are still soft. The fibers are then slightly brown. For decoration purposes, wait until the cobs are completely dry. The ripe, dried kernels can also be processed into an unusual reddish-purple flour.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from May on outdoors. Use a dibber to make 2.5cm holes and sow two or three seeds every 30cm with 45 cm between rows. Sweetcorn grows best if planted in large blocks. It likes free-draining, moisture retentive and nutrient-rich soil. The plants are shallow rooted: protection from winds and water loss in the soil is very important.
