Sweetcorn Bloody Butcher Seeds
Info: Sweet Corn Bloody Butcher is truly a fabulous heirloom corn from the US (known since 1845) with blood-red kernels in gorgeous wine-red husks. The plants can reach heights up to 2,5 meters and bear 2-3 cobs on each stalk. The immature cobs can be eaten like sweet corn, but the mature corn can be ground for an exquisite red corn flour for tortillas or used for decoration.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from May on outdoors. Use a dibber to make 2.5cm holes and sow two or three seeds every 30cm with 45 cm between rows. Sweetcorn grows best if planted in large blocks. It likes free-draining, moisture retentive and nutrient-rich soil. The plants are shallow rooted: protection from winds and water loss in the soil is very important.
