Cucumber Crystal Lemon Seeds
Info: Cucumber `Lemon Crystal` is a very old variety cultivated since in 1894. Its yellow, round fruits are the size of a small apple each. The plants are robust and good suited for outdoor grwoing in Mid Europe. The flavour of the fruits is very similar to a typical cucumber, with tender pale greenish skin and sweet flesh, they have the best flavour while young at about 5cm. The skins toughen with age so pick them when they are small. They can be used for salads and pickling.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow indoors Mar-Apr or sow directly outdoors in May when all risk of frost has passed. Sow 3 seeds 10mm deep into 8cm pots of free draining moist seed compost. Thin to strongest seedling asap. Keep moist, not wet. Plant the seedlings out after the last frost. Cucumbers prefer rich soil with plenty of organic matter. Train up supports with 45 cm spacing. For ground maturing lay straw or plastic to keep fruit clean with 90cm spacing. Pick fruits while young and tender, older fruits can become bitter.
