Cucumber Red Wonder Seeds
Info: This quite rare cucumber `Red Wonder` is a heirloom with an interesting reddish brown skin with net pattern. The 18-20 long cucumbers have a mild taste and an exceptionally crisp texture that makes them perfect for fresh eating or tasty pickles. When the seeds mature, the fruits become brown, so it is better to harvest young fruits. The variety is suitable both for outdoor cultivation and for the greenhouse, is robust and not susceptible to diseases and pests.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow indoors Mar-Apr or sow directly outdoors in May when all risk of frost has passed. Sow 3 seeds 10mm deep into 8cm pots of free draining moist seed compost. Thin to strongest seedling asap. Keep moist, not wet. Plant the seedlings out after the last frost. Cucumbers prefer rich soil with plenty of organic matter. Train up supports with 45 cm spacing. For ground maturing lay straw or plastic to keep fruit clean with 90cm spacing. Pick fruits while young and tender, older fruits can become bitter.
