Aubergine Black Beauty Seeds
Info: Black Beauty was introduced about 1910 and has long been popular with home gardeners. It is an excellent quality variety producing sturdy plants that give high yields of 10 to 15cm glossy, purple-black, round to oval fruits. The thin skin is also edible, so that the eggplant need not be peeled.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow January to April for growing under glass or from May on outdoors. Sow 5mm (¼ in) deep, but do not exclude light as this helps germination. Acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days. Plant out into sheltered site when all risk of frost has passed with a distance of 50 to 60 cm. They need a sunny and sheltered place and you should stake as you would for tomatoes. Hand pollination will improve the set of the first blossoms. Remove the main tip/growing point when plants are 30cm (12in) high. Feed every 14 days with high potash (tomato or chili) fertiliser once the first fruits have set.
