Chicory Rossa di Verona Seeds
Info: The `Rossa di Verona` variety is an Italian radicchio from the region around Verona. The Italian varieties of radicchio are named after the Italian regions where they originate. This variety forms closed ball heads with beautiful red/purple leaves. Usually, it is planted in the summer and will stand throughout the winter without protection. It harvested after the winter in the spring.
Sowing & Cultivation: The sowing takes place in rows, thinly distributed and 1-2 cm deep. Then cover with soil and water regularly. Separate young plants. Sowing in summer, then harvest time is in early spring. Chicoree/Radicchio likes a sunny site with nutrient-rich, loamy soil.
Chicory can also be bleached, then in the autumn the thick roots are excavated and buried in a dark, warm cellar (for example heating room) in a sand box. About three weeks later, soft bleached heads occur, which then can be harvested.
