Chicory Variegata di Chioggia Seeds

Info: Chicory `Variegata di Chioggia` is an Italian heirloom with reddish-white colour and a very good taste. It is a beautiful, large, compact, round headed radicchio. The outer leaves are green and thick with reddish speckles, the tender inner leaves have a brilliant red and white colour. This variety is best suited for crunchy salads or for decoration.

Sowing & Cultivation: The sowing takes place in rows, thinly distributed and 1-2 cm deep. Then cover with soil and water regularly. Separate young plants. Sowing in summer, then harvest time is in winter (November to January). Chicoree/Radicchio likes a sunny site with nutrient-rich, loamy soil.
Chicory can also be bleached, then in the autumn the thick roots are excavated and buried in a dark, warm cellar (for example heating room) in a sand box. About three weeks later, soft bleached heads occur, which then can be harvested.
