Lettuce Saladin Seeds
Info: Iceberg lettuce Saladin is an outstanding crisp/iceberg variety and a popular choice for the market grower and amateur. It produces compact well wrapped heads of medium size with shiny, crisp, tasty green leaves. Stands remarkably well when ready. With resistance to bolting and leaf rot it is very suitable for spring and summer planting. Saladin is also suitable for closer spacing and adapts to patio pots, growbags and containers. Outstanding "Iceberg" type.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow February to March under protection (plant out April), or directly outdoors from March to June. Sow at a seed depth of 6 to 12mm (¼ to ½in) in short rows about 30cm (12in) apart. Lettuce doesn`t do well in very acidic soils, and the pH shouldn`t be lower than 6.5. A rich and constantly moist soil is excellent for lettuce as well as a half-shady place as they tend to bolt in full sun. Harvest as soon as the lettuce is large enough to make it worthwhile. The harvest is over when a central stem starts to form. This is the signal that the plant is getting ready to bolt and the leaves will be bitter.
