Lettuce Sunset Seeds
Info: `Sunset` is an attractive loose-leafed vivid lettuce with crinkled red leaves, that will remind you of a sunset`s intense red colours. It has very good flavour with nice texture and is the favorite of many gardeners. It is a good choice to mix with green varieties. It has an excellent heat resistance and will be one of the last in the garden to start tasting bitter in the summer heat, and it is slow to bolt.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow outdoors successively between March to August. Seed depth 6 - 12 mm in short rows about 20 - 30 cm apart. When the seedlings are about 2cm tall, thin them out. If you sow every three weeks, you have fresh lettuce all summer long. A rich soil is excellent for lettuce, but the crop will also do well in average garden soil. Fertilize the soil with compost or horn meal before sowing. Watering is essential, the plants need almost constantly moist ground as dry soil will cause the plants to put their energy into producing flowers.
