Lettuce Iceberg Seeds
Info: Lettuce Iceberg produces forms large, loose heads with beautiful bright green outer leaves. A popular iceberg variety amongst amateur gardeners as it is slow to bolt even in hot conditions, and performs reliably whether the summer is wet or dry.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow February to March under protection (plant out April), or directly outdoors from March to June. Sow at a seed depth of 6 to 12mm (¼ to ½in) in short rows about 30cm (12in) apart. Lettuce doesn`t do well in very acidic soils, and the pH shouldn`t be lower than 6.5. A rich and constantly moist soil is excellent for lettuce as well as a half-shady place as they tend to bolt in full sun. Harvest as soon as the lettuce is large enough to make it worthwhile. The harvest is over when a central stem starts to form. This is the signal that the plant is getting ready to bolt and the leaves will be bitter.
