Leek Blue de Solaise Seeds
Info: Leek `Blue de Solaise` is a French heirloom that is extremely hardy. It produces thick, white stems with blueish-grey leaves. The plants can witstand cold weather and even temperatures below 0°C and can be kept on the plot during the whole winter in any weather. The leaves colour darker when it freezes.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow January to February under glass or March and April outdoors. Sow the seed thinly, 1.5cm deep in drills 30 cm apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Transplant when plants are large enough to handle to 25 - 30 cm apart. During the growth, continue to earth up so that as much of the leek as possible stays white. When the leek has reached a diameter of 3 cm it is ready to harvest.
