Squash Blue Kuri Seeds
Info: Squash `Blue Kuri` or `Blue Hokkaido` has an unusual blue-grey skin with deep orange flesh. It produces small size fruits of about 1-2 kg in weight. The pumpkins have a mealy pulp with a fine sweet-nutty flavour. For cooking you have to free it from its hard shell and then you can use the aromatic pulp for soups, gratins, cakes, desserts and vegetable dishes. Can be stored well for several months.
Sowing & cultivation: Pumpkin plants need a lot of space as creeping plants and a good nutrient supply. The soil should therefore be profound and nutritious. From mid-May can be sown directly into the open field. Depending on the variety a plant needs up to 2m² of space. Abundant irrigation is very important, especially in the beginning. A typical pumpkin problem are snails. Try as protection a thick ring of sawdust around the young plant. It should be fertilized with a few horns, four weeks later with full fertilizer. The harvest begins in September and lasts until the frost.
