Pumpkin Hundredweight Seeds
Info: As the name suggests, the pumpkin `Hundredweight` produces enourmous fruits growing up to 25 kg. They have an orange skin with pale yellow stripes and the yellow flesh is high in flavour and gives colour in salads or pickles and is ideal for pies and soups. It is easy to grow but needs a bit of space on your vegetable patch.
Sowing & cultivation: Pumpkin plants need a lot of space as creeping plants and a good nutrient supply. The soil should therefore be profound and nutritious. From mid-May can be sown directly into the open field. Depending on the variety a plant needs up to 2m² of space. Abundant irrigation is very important, especially in the beginning. A typical pumpkin problem are snails. Try as protection a thick ring of sawdust around the young plant. It should be fertilized with a few horns, four weeks later with full fertilizer. The harvest begins in September and lasts until the frost.
