Spaghetti Squash Seeds
Info: The Spaghetti squash is an unusual type with pale yellow, oval fruits and the flesh breaks down into spaghetti-like fibers that have a nutty flavour. Use only the fully ripened fruits, because only then does the pulp get the spaghetti structure. The pumpkins weigh between 1 to 3 kg.
PREPARATION: The pumpkins are baked as a whole in the oven or cooked in a pot for about 20-30 minutes, then cut them up, remove the seeds and take out the spaghetti-like flesh. You can also serve it with spaghetti sauce and grated cheese or with butter and ground nuts or prepare it as a salad.
Sowing & cultivation: Pumpkin plants need a lot of space as creeping plants and a good nutrient supply. The soil should therefore be profound and nutritious. From mid-May can be sown directly into the open field. Depending on the variety a plant needs up to 2m² of space. Abundant irrigation is very important, especially in the beginning. A typical pumpkin problem are snails. Try as protection a thick ring of sawdust around the young plant. It should be fertilized with a few horns, four weeks later with full fertilizer. The harvest begins in September and lasts until the frost.
