Pumpkin Hokkaido Seeds
Pumpkin Hokkaido Seeds
Info: This bright orange pumpkin from Japan has become one of the most popular pumpkins in Mid Europe. Since its slightly ribbed skin softens when cooked, you do not have to peel it. The pulp is dark yellow, thick-bodied and has an excellent nutty flavour. The pumpkins reach a weight of about 1.5 kg and are ready to harvest when they sound hollow when knocking. Stores well.
Sowing & cultivation: Pumpkin plants need a lot of space as creeping plants and a good nutrient supply. The soil should therefore be profound and nutritious. From mid-May can be sown directly into the open field. Depending on the variety a plant needs up to 2m² of space. Abundant irrigation is very important, especially in the beginning. A typical pumpkin problem are snails. Try as protection a thick ring of sawdust around the young plant. It should be fertilized with a few horns, four weeks later with full fertilizer. The harvest begins in September and lasts until the frost.
