Organic Black Peppercorns
These organic black peppercorns from certified organic farms originate from Sri Lanka, an island nation with 20 million inhabitants off India`s south-east coast. In Sri Lanka, pepper is usually grown by smallhold farmers in the mountains, especially organic-quality pepper. The climate in Sri Lanka similar to that in India, where the pepper plant originally comes from. Today, pepper is even grown in Brazil.
Pepper should always be ground when fresh, as the aromas of the essential oils can dissipate very easily. Pepper is used as a dining table seasoning or added to cooking just before the dish is done in order to keep as much of the flavour as possible.
Black, white and green pepper are all grown on the same pepper plant (Piper nigrum). The colour and flavour of the peppercorns are affected by the ripeness and different treatments methods after harvesting.
Organic certification: DE-ÖKO-001 / Non-EU agriculture
