Lemon myrtle surprises with a unique, refreshing taste of a combination of a lemon, lemongrass and lime. Its intense fragrance of lemon is stronger than even of lemon itself.
The lemon myrtle comes from the rainforest of Queenland in Australia. It is also called lemon scented tea tree and it belongs botanically to the family Myrtaceae. The leaves are used as a spice, and they can be harvested throughout the year. Because of its large amounts of essential oils it is a popular ingedients of tea blends.
Lemon myrtle got more popular in recent years, and its intense fruity flavour goes particularly well with fish, seafood, pork and poultry. It also refines salad dressings, chutneys, dips and fillings. You can use it even on fruity desserts.
Lemon myrtle should not be heated too long and too hot, as it changes its flavour.
